Cons: Some unfriendly advisors – Very expensive – Hard selling
What is it?
The Jenny Craig diet is a very well known program that is based on a combination of support groups/advisors and their own packaged food. The idea is that losing weight is not only a physical effort, but also a mental challenge where you sometimes have to struggle to stay on the right track. With Jenny Craig you have to stay in constant contact with your advisor and eat the food they recommend to you, and in the end you’ll lose weight. There are also Jenny Craig clinics spread out all over the world so chances are there is a clinic near you that you can visit for more information.
How to use it
After you sign up for Jenny Craig you’ll be given a consultant/advisor that will work with you to maximize your weight loss. You will also have to order the food they sell, and most advisors also seem to push for their vitamins (which many web posters feel is very pushy sales tactics). Some posters even reported that their advisors got angry with them when they didn’t want to spend the extra money on vitamins. Others really like their advisors so it seems very hit-or-miss.
On the Internet, there are many differing opinions about the food. Some like it, some don’t. Most seem to agree that you WILL go hungry when you’re eating their food. Some even said they felt dizzy some days because their calorie intake was so low.
Our verdict
The main gripe we have about this diet is the cost. Most report a total cost of around $500/month to stay on the diet, including food, membership fee etc. That’s just way too much no matter how you look at it! They also do not offer a money back guarantee. Secondly, there is an awful amount of disgruntled users out there that feel that their “advisors” are nothing more than sales persons, whose job it is to keep you buying as much as possible from them.
Nevertheless, people DO lose weight when they stay on the diet, so it’s not like it’s not working. In our opinion it’s probably well suited for some individuals, who like the hand-holding aspect and are willing to pay a premium for it. However, we suspect that many users gain back the weight after they stop eating Jenny Craig’s own food.
What other people say
I have been on the Jenny Craig program before, and it worked okay for a bit. I lost about 10 or 15 pounds in 4 months, which kinda sucked.I lost hope and gave up, eating what I wanted, and gained back everything and more. My couselor was very kind though and I miss her. This is a good diet for some people. It seriously just depends on who you are.
Maggie
A great diet if you want to loose weight quick. The calorie intake of 1200 seemed so small and I often felt dizzy on the diet.
