We recommend visitors of any review site to treat every product recommendation with a healthy degree of skepticism, but it would be a mistake to assume that every review is invalid just because there may be a commission paid to the reviewer. Here are some of the readers protections we attempt to build into our reviews:

1. Our reviews contain factual information that is easily verifiable. We always try to provide an honest and accurate assessment.

2. The review includes a section that is a subjective summary. This is based on the personal experience of the reviewer or consumer feedback.

3. Attempts are made to establish the general consensus in relation to specific products by either trying out the products, researching ingredients lists, reading reviews of those products on other sites, along with user testimonials and we attempt to portray this overall perception in our reviews.

4. We always provide links to the manufacturers’ website to provide additional information that is not available in our reviews. Some of this information can include customer testimonials, more specific product details, sales information, free newsletters and even samples.

These are good rules of practice. It is important for you as a consumer to understand the relationship between a person reviewing the product and the manufacturer.

If you do not see a disclosure policy on a review site, that reviewer may be committing an offence.

I hope that you have a useful and meaningful experience as a direct result of our detailed reviews and articles. We welcome any feedback that may help us to improve your experience when visiting this website.

DASH Diet was developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, which published free guides on this diet plan. The guides take the reader through the process of assessing how many calories should be consumed, depending on age and activity level.

Studies have shown that DASH diet can help with lowering blood pressure. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Not only that, but it also increases good cholesterol while at the same time decreasing bad cholesterol and triglycerides. DASH is a reflection of the definition of a heart-healthy diet within the medical community. The diet plan is rich in fruits and vegetables but light in saturated fat, sugar and salt. It is not completely restrictive for entire food groups and offers plenty of recipe options.

The DASH diet plan does not require special foods, it just encourages having a certain number of daily servings comprising various food groups.

Changes should be made over a few days or weeks, thus giving you the opportunity to adjust and include the changes in a daily routine. DASH diet plan includes whole grain products, fish, poultry and nuts. Lean red meat, sweets or added sugars are reduced. Being rich in potassium, magnesium and calcium, protein and fiber, DASH encourages wise food choices.

Combining DASH with regular physical activity can help you lose weight and keep it off. The biggest benefits can be obtained by using this eating plan and reducing sodium intake. You can get started by comparing your eating habits with DASH. This helps you identify the changes you should make. DASH is a diet plan that can accommodate plenty of varied types of cuisines.

Dr. Siegal has been offering such cookies for more than 30 years and they are distributed as snacks that can help you manage your weight. Every batch is mixed with the proprietary protein formula in Dr. Siegal’s private bakery, near his Miami clinic.

The program involves eating six specially formulated cookies during the day, in addition to one meal at the end of the day. Cookies can be eaten together with other diets, as well.

In April 2011, Dr. Siegal announced a new program called Dr. Siegal’s Plan 10X.

The new cookies contain 60 calories each and they should be eaten every two hours. The cookies are the main difference in the new plan, being all natural, Kosher, vegetarian, but much tastier and offered at a lower price.

Besides, cookies, Dr. Siegal also offers a line of shakes and soups. One shake mix is the equivalent of two cookies. His low-calorie plan promises to help lose up to 15 pounds in just one month. Cookies can be bought online, but also in drug stores or in Dr. Siegal’s retail stores. They come in a variety of flavours, such as banana, chocolate, coconut or strawberry.

However, the Cookie Diet only offers appetite suppressants, and does not contain any fat burning products. By recommending a diet of only 800 calories per day, this diet might not appeal to many dieters.
Celebrities that have embraced his diet include Denise Richards, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Snooki.

The hCG diet is a diet combining injections of the hCG hormone and a daily limit of 500 calories. HCG is the human chorionic gonadotropin, available through doctors or drugstores in a diluted form. Nutritional supplements stores also provide the diluted form. The human chorionic gonadotropin can make fat in the body become available to nourish the fetus and is present in pregnant women.

This diet fad has been around since the 1950s, and today people can find hCG in different forms such as sprays, liquid drops or creams. The hCG diet was firs popularized by Dr. Albert Simeons in 1971. In his book, “Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity”, Simoens, a British born endocrinologist, revealed that small doses of HCG given to people who were overweight could make them loose inches around the stomach area very fast. It was assumed that the hormone can help metabolize abdominal fat, reduce the appetite in a natural way by working on the hypothalamus gland which controls satiety.

The FDA never approved the hCG diet and has repeatedly issued warnings that hCG has not been proven to promote weight loss.

However, the FDA never banned doctors from prescribing the hormone for quick weight loss.

Proponents of the hCG diet claim to lose up to 30 pounds in a month, but due to the heavy restrictions of just 500 calories per day, the results are not unexpected. In addition, when you lose weight fast, you are more likely to gain it back faster. Slow and steady is a healthier way to achieve long term results.

In 1979, Nathan Pritikin published his book ‘The Pritikin Program for Diet and Exercise’ and low fat diets became extremely popular. Other low fat diets included the Scarsdale diet, the Ornish Diet and Rosemary Conley’s Hip and Tigh Diet.

In order to be able to lose weight while on a low-fat diet, the total fat intake should not exceed 30% of total calories. Lowering the fat content in processed food however, meant raising the sugar content. Fats metabolized in the body provide 9 calories per gram, while proteins and carbohydrates provide only 4.

The Pritikin diet plan required that less than 10% of calories to come from fat. However, the diet was also low in protein but high in whole-grain carbohydrates. Such a diet can cause weight loss and lower risk for heart disease. But staying on such a diet for too long does not allow getting benefits from beneficial fats such as omega-3 fatty acids.

The Ornish Diet is an almost vegetarian diet and can promote heart health. Other low fat diets are designed for people suffering from digestive disorders.

Foods that you should avoid when you are on a low fat diet include whole milk and milk products such as ice cream, cream cheese, chicken skin, fried foods, spare ribs or any meat with visible fat, salad dressing, potato chips and baked cookies, cakes, pies and doughnuts.

Food labels list the nutrition information such as calories, calories from fat, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat. Low fat diets can be an effective way to achieve weight loss but as it is difficult to stay on such a diet for too long, you can gain back weight.

The program has three phases: a restrictive phase of between 1100-1200 calories per day, the ongoing phase where calorie allowance raises to 1200-1500 calories and the maintenance phase with a caloric intake of 1500 calories or more.

There is also a significant exercise component in the Fat Flush Plan. Depending on the phase, you can exercise from 20 to 40 minutes per day, and include both low impact, or walking and strength training such as lifting weights.

Fat Flush Plan has all the elements of a healthy weight loss program. Being a detox or cleansing diet, the first phase is very restrictive. Healthy eating patterns have to replace old habits if you want to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

The Fat Flush diet book was published in 1988 by Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, a weight loss and detox expert. She has shared the secrets to a healthier body and weight loss through detoxification. The program can increase metabolism, energy, improve sleep and regulate moods among other benefits.

The liver is considered the most important organ in the body that can control the weight problem. It is the major fat burning organ and the Fat Flush Plan is based on the idea that a healthy liver is the first step towards effective weight loss. After detoxification, daily supplements of flax seed oil, cranberries juice and psyllium are necessary to boost weight loss.

Consuming essential fat, thin protein and quality low sugar carbohydrates can lead to success in weight loss. The very low calorie level in the first phase of this diet plan may be difficult to follow for some people though. This is true especially for men as the more restrictive phase of the diet plan may slow down the metabolism instead of speeding it up.

Everything we eat and drink contains calories. Calories mean energy that is used by our bodies for everything that we do. From intense exercise to everyday tasks, we always burn calories. You gain weight when you consume more calories than you burn, but if you consume the same amount of calories that you body burns, your weight stays the same.

Calorie counting can help you control your weight or reach a specific goal in terms of weight. For health purposes, you should never try to make large and fast changes to your calorie intake. It is recommended that you should lose weight at a rate of 1 to 2 pounds per week. One pound equals 3500 calories. You can easily lose one pound per week if you try to consume 500 calories less per day. On average, a female needs 2000 calories every day, while a male needs 2500 calories each day.

With calorie counting, you are able to choose anything that you want to eat as long as you make sure you keep track of the number of calories you consume. Exercising regularly can keep the excess calories off. Counting calories forces you to examine all the food you eat.

There are two ways you can count calories and educate yourself on nutrition, namely the meal plan method and the nutrition journal method. You can create a menu plan by using software or a spreadsheet. You create such a plan meal by meal, adding information about calories, macronutrients and serving sizes. After you created such a plan, you should follow it every day. The other method is to keep a nutrition journal or food diary, on paper or with an electronic device, either as a software application or one that you can find on a website. After each meal you log in what you ate, or at the end of each day you log in all the food you ate for the entire day.

There are a few calorie counting devices available that can help you control your weight. CalorieSmart is such an example, it is a handheld calorie counter and food diary that can help you tailor a weight loss plan. It is an electronic diet and exercise journal containing nutrition information for more than 50,000 different foods.

Counting calories and keeping a food diary for at least 4 to 12 consecutive weeks can help you get a better awareness of how food influences your weight.

Slim Fast is an approach to weight loss based on portion control, sensible eating, regular exercise and support.

You can lose 10% of your body weight in the first six months, according to the Slim Fast website. The Slim Fast diet plan involves having six small meals every day and you are advised to eat Slim Fast products for two meals and one snack. The rest of the day you can eat healthy meals and there is no need to count calories. There are no forbidden foods, but lean protein, fruits and vegetables are emphasized by this diet plan. You control portions, fat and starches and thus you can control calories.

The exercise aspect of this diet plan involves 30 minutes of moderate activity. Message boards, online chats, ‘Ask the Dietitian’ and success stories are offered on the website and are designed to provide encouragement to those trying to lose weight.

The Slim Fast products offer balanced nutrition and take the guesswork out of portion control. The Slim Fast Optima meal plan provides a healthy combination of complex carbs, protein and healthy fats. It offers 100% of the nutrients your body requires and weight loss is supported by the low caloric intake.

Slim Fast has become a veteran in prepackaged weight loss solutions. It has been in the weight loss business longer than Weight Watchers. It was first marketed in 1977 by Thompson Medical Company and it became a hit after Wal-Mart began to offer the products. Sales doubled in 1988, after Oprah Winfrey used Optifast, a medically supervised meal replacement and lost more than 50 pounds. The Slim Fast Foods Company was bought by Unilever in 2000.

The Zone Diet is not just a diet, the Zone is a place where you can feel alert, refreshed and full of energy, according to the author of ‘Enter the Zone’, Barry Sears, PhD. Sears is a former researcher in biotechnology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He and the co-author, Bill Lawren claim that by retooling your metabolism with a diet that is 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbohydrates, you can expect to turn back heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes.

The Zone diet is a metabolic state in which the body works at peak efficiency, and this state is created by eating a set ratio of carbohydrates, protein and fat. You do not have to eat fewer calories, just different ones. You need a small amount of protein at every meal and snack. Favourable carbohydrates have to be twice the size of the protein portion and include vegetables and lentils, beans, whole grains and fruits. If you choose unfavourable carbohydrates, such as brown rice, pasta, banana, breat, carrots or fruit juices, you should have a smaller amount.

Dairy products are not forbidden but the Zone diet explains how quickly they release glucose. Low-fat or no-fat cheese and milk are preferred along with egg whites and egg substitutes. Saturated fats should be kept to a minimum, but olive, canola, madamia nuts and avodados are allowed.

The Zone diet is higher in protein and fat than other diet plans but it is rather rigid in the amount of protein/fat/carbohydrate a person needs. High-fat icecream is surprinsingly among the list of allowable foods in Zone Diet. The fat can slow down the rate of absorption of carbohydrates into the body, according to Sears. His theory is based on the idea of using diet to control the body’s production of insulin. Insulin helps regulate storage of excess energy as fat, so the goal is to keep a balance between fat storing insulin and glucagon, insuline’s opposite, which releases the stored glucose from the liver when needed. Sears suggests that we should think of food not as a source of calories but a control system for hormones.
